New Phi Theta Kappa Members Initiated in Candlelight Ceremony
Barton County Community College’s Phi Psi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa national honor fraternity initiated new members in a candle lighting ceremony Sunday afternoon, April 27, in the college's Fine Arts Building Seminar Room, F-30.
Speaker for the ceremony was Barton’s 2007 Distinguished Instructor John Simmons. Initiates were honored with a reception following the ceremony.
Students eligible to join the honor fraternity have distinguished themselves academically by maintaining a 3.5 or higher grade point average. They must have completed at least 12 semester hours and be currently enrolled full time at Barton. Students invited to join Ph Theta Kappa were nominated by college faculty, staff and administrators.
Phi Theta Kappa is the only nationally recognized honor society for two-year colleges. Barton’s Phi Theta Kappa advisers are English instructor Stephannie Goerl and technical accounting and accounting instructor/coordinator Kathy Boeger.
