Barton English Instructor Earns First Place in Poetry Competition

Barton County Community College English instructor Ruth Moritz, Great Bend, received a first-place prize from the Academy of American Poets for her poem titled “Poacher.” The academy is a national organization that supports American poets at all stages of their careers.

Moritz’s poem was selected from a nationwide call for entries from university writing programs. Professor Jeanine Hathaway at Wichita State University nominated Moritz’s poem as the submission from WSU’s Master of Fine Arts program.
