Barton’s Center for Adult Education to Recognize GED Graduates

Barton County Community College’s Center for Adult Education will recognize the 2007-2008 GED students who have passed the General Education Development test. The students will be honored in a graduation ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8, in the college’s Fine Arts Auditorium.

Barton President Dr. Carl Heilman will give the graduation address. Presenting the class will be Barton’s Dean of Academics Dr. Richard Abel. Diplomas will be presented by Robert Feldt, chairman of Barton’s Board of Trustees.

Coordinator of the Center for Adult Education Joseph Thornton will welcome the graduates and their guests. The Rev. Loyse Clay will give the invocation and ESL instructor Doris Reile-Kneller will provide music for the processional.

Luke Seitz, English and reading tutor, and Sister Charlotte Brungardt, math tutor, will present special awards and Doris Reile, ESL instructor, will present Citizenship Awards. Barton 2005 graduate Valarie Lewis Whistler will present a musical tribute. The ceremony will be followed by a reception in the Student Union.

Approximately 70 students from Great Bend and surrounding area have completed the center’s GED program since July 1, 2007. The ABE/GED program is funded by the Kansas Board of Regents.
