Barton Offers Hybrid Courses Originating From Fort Riley Campus
Four hybrid courses will be offered on the Barton County Community College campus this summer featuring faculty from Barton’s Fort Riley campus. Hybrid courses offer a mix of face-to-face instruction with online work to give students the best of both worlds.
The courses set for June 2 through July 25 include: Principles of Macroeconomics, instructor Ed Chandler; Military History/Second World War, instructor Mike Cox; General Psychology, instructor Joel Lundstrom; and World Religions, instructor Gil Cloud.
The classes will meet from 5:30-8:30 p.m. one night a week with the remainder of the work online allowing students to complete the three-credit-hour courses in half a semester.
Local students will join the classes through interactive television (ITV) giving them an opportunity to interact with students and faculty from Fort Riley.
Barton’s Dean of Academics Dr. Rick Abel said the expansion of hybrid format classes could help students, especially older students who are trying to balance classes with the rest of their busy lives. “I also think they will enjoy being in class with soldiers and members of the military family at the post,” Abel said.
