Barton Offers Compressed Accounting I and II Back-to-Back This Fall

Barton Community College will offer students the opportunity to complete two accounting courses consecutively in one semester this fall. Compressed Accounting I begins Aug. 18 and ends Oct. 10, followed by Accounting II, Oct. 13 through Dec. 12. The class meets from 7:30 to 8:28 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Offered for the first time last spring, the compressed courses were developed to meet the needs of full-time students as well as those working full time who like the idea of going to the class before their workday begins.

Barton’s Business Department chair and accounting instructor Kathy Boeger said the classes have worked well for sophomores who may have declared their major later in their first year and need to speed up the process to get all of the classes they need in their sophomore year.
“It’s tough for them to get those two classes in and still have time for managerial accounting as well,” she said.

Boeger had 14 students enrolled in compressed accounting last semester, and already for fall, she has 13 students signed up. The students must be willing to take on the early morning hour, but most of them have found it well worth the effort, she said. Students who have regular jobs have been able to arrange their work arrival time with their supervisors in order to take the classes.

The compressed scheduling allows the students to complete six hours of accounting in one semester, then the following semester they can enroll in Managerial Accounting. During the spring semester, Accounting II will also be compressed with Managerial Accounting, Boeger added.

Tuition and fees are $213 for each three-hour course. For both Accounting I and Accounting II, tuition and fees are $426. Textbook fees are additional.
