Barton’s Campus Christian Fellowship Spends Break on Mission Trip to New Orleans

Barton County Community College students on a Campus Christian Fellowship ministry team spent their spring break in New Orleans helping with ongoing rebuilding projects three years after the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

The student-led ministry March 15-22 worked in conjunction with Arkansas Baptist Builders, which has had a presence in New Orleans since the time of the disaster. This builders’ organization specializes in framing, electric wiring, sheet rocking, mudding, roofing and painting for just the cost of the materials.

On this trip, eight students from Barton’s CCF worked at two residential locations performing sheetrock/drywall-related labor. The students also visited an area neighborhood and handed out approximately 50 gift bags to adults and children.

Students on the ministry trip were Amber Watson, Junction City; Elizabeth “Issie” Flaherty, Tescott; Nick Spiser, Andrew Jacobs and Greg Wyatt, all of Great Bend; Lisa Hoffman, Rozel; and Rebecca Crotinger and Calie Rous, both of Hoisington.

Barton Student Health services nurse Kathy Brock provided first aid kits for the student laborers. Sponsors on the trip were Brian Howe, Barton CCF adviser, Carol Smith and Carlene Cantrell.
